Huron XC Team Meeting Recap 2023

Practice
• Official practice began 8/7. Physicals and athletic forms must be uploaded and completed on Student Central to practice and compete.
• Practice is 6:30-8:00p till school starts then practice will be 3:00-5:00p
• On speed workout days (designated on our google sheets log) practice will run till 5:15p
• Carpool to practice with student-athletes and coaches (if necessary) after school. Must communicate absences with designated drive and coaches.
• Practices will NOT be posted on teamapp once school starts unless there is a change in location from Chestnut Pavilion, Time, or Cancelation. Otherwise, we are at Chestnut 3-5 or 5:15
• Dress for the weather (we will run in the rain and as a runner, you should always have layers available)

Communication
• Is done through our Team App – https://huroncrosscountry.teamapp.com
• Schedule is updated and posted
• There is a private messaging feature in the Chat to contact coaches. Commitment to our team should be treated in the same way as a job. Athletes need to contact coaches if they are not going to be able to attend practice (NO- No call, No show)
• Facebook – Friends and family of New Boston Huron Cross country -feel free to share pics of the team

Races
• Varsity is top 7-10 depending on the race, everyone else runs in the JV race
• Jamboree 1 and 2 all runners run in the same race (Top 7 Varsity)
• No busses for Saturday meets – NO bus for Lamplighter
• Meets with busses, athletes are expected to ride the bus to and from
• Need a note from the athletic department 24 hrs in advance if not riding the bus
Athletic Director Jake Shulaw – shulawk@huronschools.org
• Need to be at team tent ready to do warm-up 1 hour before race
• Expected to do a cool down after the race
• Stay and cheer on teammates

Varsity letter
• Half of the races ran on varsity (5)
• Hit qualifying time
• Seniors with at least 2 years of experience

Huron Invitational
• Saturday, September 16th – Our home invitational
• Need parent and athlete volunteers. Athletes plan on staying to help 8:30a-3p
Volunteers needed for: Finish Chute, Shirt Sales, Water table, Packet pickup
• Signup sheet available at meeting and Signup Genius will be posted soon

Cadillac Invitational – Holiday Inn Express & Suites Cadillac – Sat.Sept. 23rd
• Varsity only (10)
• Staying Friday night in a hotel (cost covered by Huron XC)
• Athletes would need money for dinner Fri night and lunch for on the way home Sat
• Leave Friday noonish, return Saturday late afternoon
• Volunteer drivers needed
• JV has the weekend off, Varsity will have Marauder Invite off

Team Dinners
• Popular tradition
• Typically, a healthy pasta dinner on Friday the night before Saturday invitationals
• 45 athletes
• Multiple families usually co-organize
• Homecoming 9/29 we will have morning practice at 6am followed by breakfast

NHS Volunteer Hours Opportunity
• Coach Roupe & Morris coach the NB Braves youth running program on Mondays & Thursdays 5:30-6:30pm starting Aug.28. See coaches if interested in some hours.
