2024 Huron Cross Country Coach Cassandra Roupe and Coach Don Morris
Intro for anyone new to cross country. Cross country is a distance running sport that is ran in parks over all kinds of terrain at a distance of 5K. Cross country can be a challenging sport that can require a strong commitment and at the same time can be one of the most rewarding experiences an athlete can have.

Summer Conditioning – Theme should be Consistency is Key!
We will meet 2-3 days a week, Times and locations will be on Team App (Sun-Long Run, Tues, Thurs)
Mileage plans and mileage log will be emailed out
Important Dates
6/9 – Mileage log begins
6/18 – Begin group runs
7/1 – 7/7 – Dead period (no coach/athlete/parent contact)
7/8 – 7/11 – Youth track camp
7/11- Huron summer track meet
7/25 – 7/28 – Cross country camp
4 Day Rustic Camping @ Brighton Rec Center. Camp meeting mid-July. Highly recommended-Most popular team activity.
8/12 – Official practice begins (attendance becomes mandatory) Practice will be Mon.-Fri. 6:30p-8p until school starts. Once school starts we will be after school 3p-5p.
Physical must be done and uploaded in Student Central. Consult your doctor about blood work to check Ferritin levels.
8/23 – First race (Complete race schedule posted in teamapp. Times based on last year’s postings)
9/14 – Huron Invitational – Major fundraiser for our team. Volunteer sign-up to come.
Mileage Log – Google Sheet shared document used to log runs
Emailed to every athlete
Athletes responsibility to log their runs
Didn’t log it / Didn’t happen
Prizes given at certain benchmarks
Running Shoes – most important piece of equipment. Water bottle & Sunscreen.
